Entertaiment is a popular term that refers to a variety of art forms that provide pleasure and enjoyment to its audience. It includes everything from plays and movies to dance and chanting. It has become a major part of our everyday life. This is mainly because of the availability of various modes of entertainment.
The word entertainment is derived from the Latin intertenere, which is a compound of the prefix inter- “inside” and tenire, from tenere (to hold), from the PIE root *ten-to stretch. It entered English in late 15c. as a noun meaning “a hold or maintenance.” A sense of amusement and pleasantry is 1620s. The modern sense of entertain as a verb is from 1790.
It is worth mentioning that the concept of Entertaiment has become extremely complex due to its diverse nature. It is also important to note that what may appear to be entertaining for one person may not be so to another. This is especially true in the case of different types of rite, party, religious or non secular pageant and satire.
